Born and raised in Japan, has always participated in music activities since she was young. She started piano lesson at the age of 6 and picked up many other instruments such as euphonium, saxophone, and percussion instruments. Her interest in music never stopped, and she decided to achieve her Bachelors degree in music. Risa has studied classical piano under Eva-solar Kinderman at Vancouver Community College for four years. She also met Gerald van Wyck at VCC who became her fist conducting mentor. Under Gerald’s assistant, Risa has conducted West Vancouver United Church Choir and Pacific Spirit Choir. With numbers of great opportunities to be involved with choral activities, she has gained a tremendous amount of interest in Choral Conducting. Risa has accomplished Masters of Music in Choral Conducting under Dr. Greame Langager at UBC. She has experiences as an artistic director of Kids Sing Chorus, Vox Co and Aurora Celebration Choir. Her main focus is to reach out to as many children with music and she can not get excited enough to start a choir at Tri-City School of Music.
